While Toronto appears to have some "greening" in place including waste reduction targets, green washing is still a dominant force in manipulating the consumer.

Toronto also has Wind Towers on the Lakefront, providing 3000 homes with power...but rumour says they are not actually attached to the grid. The province is still promoting Nuclear Power Generation as clean power and pushing to have several plants. Do we want another "3 Mile Island"? The radiation after the life of the nuclear plant could last for 500 years and the true impact has not been tested.

Mass generation and production of any product in mass is detrimental to sustainable development. Fortunately enough individuals and small organizations are putting things in place. Solar panels and green roofs are popping up everywhere in Toronto. There are several geothermal companies, yep in Toronto. Many grass route and municipal networks, both online and off are promoting "green projects, initiatives and ideas", so the infrastructure is certainly starting.

We are in the infancy stage, like computers and the internet, the breakthroughs in the next decade will be incredible...looking forward to the real changes. It's refreshing. A shame it wasn't forced...natural change is much more enlightening.

Hi AD
I think the example you give regarding laundry is usually just for show. "Hey we can do something that implies we are green and it will save us money because it's less work".
If they introduced a policy to use renewable energy and green cleaning products then that would be a better indication that they cared about the environment.

When you say "eco-friendly hotel", what are your thoughts on big chains like Starwood and Wyndham who post all sorts of "help the environment!" type signs in the bathrooms regarding towel laundry... Do they really care, or are they just putting on a show?

Hi, interesting post. Now the winter months have arrived I am starting to see the difference in my energy bills compared to last year. Someone needs to do something and find a way of producing cheap electricity or we are all going to freeze to death.

Hi nice post, Why should we use anything else, Especial when we have just been given the The innovative (and controversial) UK wave hub being built on the Firth has been giving the go ahead - Energy that gets produced underwater and that can’t be seen to the naked eye must be hailed as a great achievement. As long is it does not have a negative impact in the local marine life the more of green and clean energy we can put into the Scottish Power grid is fantastic.
